You can see how to do some decent building in Fallout if you want

I’d watch if I were not at work, but I haven’t really built much despite the fact that most FO4 players seem to really enjoy the settlement building. In Sanctuary, I built just enough defense that I won’t get attacked, cleared up the destroyed houses, put a whole bunch of beds in the broken but useable houses, put a water purifier in the river and put crops all in one place. My home is just a rectangular structure I built on the foundation of a destroyed house (next to the house with all the workshops) and is just one large room.
Basically, it’s a place for me to drop off excess junk and repair/mod stuff before getting back to cleansing the wasteland and/or finding my son.

I am new to Fallout and my Sanctuary settlement looks like total garbage. Some of the ones I’ve seen on Reddit are insane.

My problem is that, when I set things down (not structures, but just things I’ve collected) they’ll spawn inside of the floor or across the town the very next time I load the game. So decoration is impossible.

I have the same problem with my weapons and stuff - I had all my melee weapons set on a cabinet/armoire type thing all arranged neatly so I can easily see them, but after loading up a save I end up with most of my stuff strewn about the floor in my home.
Also, the damned settlers end up sleeping in my bed when there's more than enough in the settlement for them to choose from.

Now if someone can figure out how to stop them from bugging me so often to save their ass. I swear, it’s getting in the way of the campaign. It’s not unusual to have 2 active settlement quests at the same time.

Same here. And sometimes they sit on nothing, like 5 feet away from a chair.

It’s weird because it tends to happen with smaller items. I have a pool table in my house where I set my heavy weapons (Junk Jet, Fat Man, Minigun) and those all appear in more or less the same place, which is on the table.
It's very strange so I just cram everything into cabinets or boxes now rather than meticulously placing items.

Yeah, same here. Except I can’t get a single thing to stay in place, big or small. I had a couple Giddy-up Buttercups next to my second-floor bed, and then I found one of them on the ground outside of the building and I still don’t know where the other went.
